Fairytales are traditionally, scenarios of metamorphosis: of the characters, their context and their way of living. However, in Firytales, the changes experienced by the characters are more drastic: they stop being objects of narration to become writers and question the authorial voice; the princesses become precious metals, nature, weeds, monsters and the intrepid girls turn into animals.

To adapt the stories for the stage, the dramaturgical work was oriented towards a style that is located between the literary manifesto and oral storytelling. it is comprised of selected fragments of the following stories: “4 Princes 4”, “You can’t stop progress”, “The density of words” and “If this is life, I’m little Red Riding Hood.”

THE STAGING IS CONCEIVED AS A SONIC/VISUAL INSTALLATION, IN WHICH THE FOREST IS RECREATED IN AN EXPANDED AND ENCHANTED FORM. THOUGH OUT AS AN INTEGRAL INTERFACE, THE SCENIC DEVICE SYNTHETIZES THE FORMAL AND CONCEPTUAL QUEST OF THE PLAY: TO BRING TOGETHER THE MUSICAL-SONIC, SPATIAL AND NARRATIVE ASPECTS.
THE PLAY’S MUSIC IS BASED ON PROCESSING AND REAL-TIME CREATION, MIXED WITH PRE-RECORDED MUSIC IN A MULTICHANNEL SYSTEM THAT GIVES 3D SPATIALITY. THIS PROCESS PERMITS THE USE OF MOVEMENT AND SOUND THAT OCCUR IN SCENE AS PART OF THE COMPOSITION, AND, AT THE SAME TIME, EXPLORE THE DRAMATURGICAL POLYPHONY IN WHICH THE MULTIPLE VOICES COME TOGETHER, OVERLAP AND DISPERSE.

MUSICAL COMPOSITION

Firytales is a piece for Percussion, Vibraphone, Fender Rhodes and Piano, with real time processing. Its inception can be found in the exploration of the timbral possibilities of the sonic objects and their transformation through synthetic thinking.

The infinite possibilities that emerge from this way of thinking, make the modular analog synthesizer the perfect medium to intervene resonating objects and acoustical or electronic instruments, through usage of different sound sources’ voltage control and their real time digital processing.

The role of the performers is fundamental, so that the microstructure conforms a macrostructure that is distributed spatially through a multichannel system made up of 8 channels.
