FIRYTALES (CUENTOS DE HADES) IS AN EXPERIMENTAL PERFORMANCE PIECE BASED ON THE WRITINGS BY THE INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED AUTHOR LUISA VALENZUELA, BORN IN ARGENTINA. IT IS AN UNDISCIPLINED, BOUNDARY-SHIFTING ARTWORK THAT DRAWS FROM THE COMBINATION OF EXPERIMENTAL ELECTRONIC MUSIC, PERFORMANCE ART AND STORYTELLING.
Deviced by María Emilia Franchignoni (Director and Dramaturg) and Jorge Chikiar (Composer and Musical Director) the work experiments with new forms of stage narrative that merge sound and spacework. Therefore, the vocal polyphony that is present in fairytales resonates freely and powerfully, as they were originally when told by old women in the bonfires, a tradition that Valenzuela masterfully evokes. In these stories, Little Red Riding Hood, the Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella amongst others, find their own voices and contest the moral imperatives of their time.
